August update- hay made & surprise lambs

August has settled in with a welcome shift in mood. After a dry spell that had us all scanning the horizon for clouds, the month finally opened with much‑needed rain. The fields have perked up almost overnight, the air feels softer, and there’s a renewed sense of energy running through the farm. One of the biggest seasonal jobs is now ticked off the list: the winter hay is made. Seeing the barns stacked high always brings a quiet satisfaction. It’s the kind of milestone that anchors the year—months of growth, a few days of hard graft, and the comfort of knowing the animals will be well fed when the cold sets in. And just when we thought the season’s surprises were behind us, the flock had other ideas. We’ve welcomed a handful of unexpected lambs, arriving with perfect timing to brighten the start of August. They’ve already brought plenty of smiles, a bit of extra bustle, and that unmistakable joy that only new lambs can deliver. Meanwhile, Helen has been adding her own splash of colour to the month. She’s been experimenting with natural dyes on her woolly products, drawing hues from plants, hedgerow finds, and whatever interesting bits nature offers up. The results are earthy, vibrant, and wonderfully unique—each piece carrying a little story of the land it came from. For those eagerly awaiting our meat boxes, we’ve got good news. Our beef boxes will be heading out at the beginning of September, packed and ready for your freezers. Not far behind, lamb will be available towards the end of September, just in time for autumn cooking and cosy kitchen days. With the rain returning, the hay safely stored, surprise lambs bouncing around the fields, Helen’s creative projects blooming, and the next round of produce nearly ready, August feels full of promise. It’s a month of replenishment, preparation, and a touch of excitement for what’s coming next.
